MISSION STATEMENT

“To design environments using strategies that incorporate stormwater to create innovative, resourceful, and compatible spaces for people, plants, and wildlife that enhance community and socio-economic well-being.”

PHILOSOPHY

Ecological Design Group, Inc. is a small business by choice, recognizing its passion and commitment to the re-connectivity of our community to the landscape. Over the past century our natural ecological systems have been fragmented due to development and the introduction of industrial agriculture. The seamless connectivity from one system to another no longer exists and has been replaced by sterile environments requiring an abundance of energy and natural resources to maintain. Our goal is to create innovative outdoor spaces which re-connect the environment with the social, cultural and political aspects of our society. Our designs utilize one of our greatest natural resources “water” as a common thread for existence regarding all life.  With the incorporation of storm water driving site design along with the principles of ecology, our outdoor spaces are responsible environments with a safe, functional and appealing public aesthetic. Our projects foster healthy, balanced relationships between people and their environment while adapting to change over time and requiring only minimal and economical maintenance.

Ecological Design Group’s approach to civil engineering design is progressive, innovative, and environmentally focused. EDG collaborates with other disciplines to generate design solutions that integrate the site with the architecture.  EDG studies each site and its ecology, and produces designs that improve the built environment and function responsibly; reflective of the natural environment. These designs are achieved through the use of low impact development and sustainable design techniques that are ecologically based and sensitive to local conditions. EDG is dedicated to developing environmentally responsible infrastructure that has multiple functions, is sustainable, and minimizes impact to the natural hydrology and aesthetic of the site. EDG is also committed to the creation of cost effective and low maintenance designs that are not only environmentally sustainable, but are financially responsible for the owner and end user.

PRINCIPLES

Community – “Group of interacting organisms sharing an environment”

Agroecology – “The science of ecology applied to the design, development, and management of agriculture”

Best Management Practices – “Structural, vegetative or managerial practices used to protect and improve our surface waters and groundwater”

Sustainability – “The linking of economic vitality; ecological integrity, and social well-being within a unified conceptual framework”

Habitat – “An area or environment where an ecological community normally lives”

FIRM EXPERIENCE

Site development is becoming increasingly more complex, calling for professionals with experience in broad environmental planning and design, as well as traditional landscape architectural skills. Today’s client must deal with a unique combination of economic and social pressures in addition to creating a well-planned and attractive environment.  Ecological Design Group, Inc. is an environmental design firm comprised of landscape architects, civil engineers, biologist while consulting with botanists throughout the design process.  Our goal is to conserve energy and other natural resources through the creative design of outdoor spaces.  The savings in energy are related to the planting of vegetation for climate control, the orientation of buildings for minimizing solar loading in the site planning of a facility, and the reuse and harvesting of rainwater.  Through our innovative design approach we are able to contribute significantly to both the functional and aesthetic success of a project.

Ecological Design Group, Inc. offers a wide variety of landscape architecture design services for both public and private clients. Specialized areas of our practice include the following:

Ecological Restoration Parks/Recreation Planning Wetland Planning/Design
Campus Planning/Design Trail Design Retention Basin/Stormwater Collection
