William E. Clark Presidential Wetlands

Little Rock Arkansas

Little Rock Arkansas
Arkansas Valley
Arkansas River

This natural sandbar habitat collects a large watershed of east Little Rock while debris and trash clutter the ecology of the system. Restoration plans call for an 8’ deep channel for the creation of prime habitat for various species of the Arkansas River. Nearly 200,000 visitors are expected to visit this restored sandbar habitat, which will provide a living outdoor classroom for the many school children walking its boardwalks. Visitors will be immersed in the natural ecology, including a low marsh, high marsh, sandbar, and elevated wetland above flood waters displaying another natural system within this watershed. Aquatic vegetation will vastly consist of floating mats due to the high fluctuation in water levels.
